4. Balancing Your Blood Sugar
This is one of the fundamentals of why the slow carb diet works so well, but there’s some other ideas the book presents. Basically, if you can keep your blood sugar at around the same level all day, you never get into a time when you are likely to store fat. This means that if you have excess fat to burn, it’s easier to burn it off.
There’s a few ways of balancing blood sugar – the slow carb diet goes a long way, however you also need to make sure you don’t eat too quickly, and that you consider the impact of artificial sweeteners, which can still raise that level, despite their havings no calories.
In the book, a continuous glucose monitor was used, to research the effect various foods have on blood sugar levels, and there are some great recommendations in the following chapter.
